Adventures with the Elderly

30 elderly
Working Partner

Introduction

Recently in Hong Kong, the number of elderly living alone is found to be rising. This group of elderly has no
company, and can only receive very limited caring from society, such as once-a-month visits or occasional
greetings from social workers. We hope that we can build up relationship with the elderly and care for them
through series of events, which include a “yum cha” gathering on Dragon Boat.

Reflection and Learning

Through home visits, volunteers experienced the living environment of the elderly living alone and had
opportunities to communicate with them. These helped us better understand their feelings and difficulties.
We found that due to their children’s negligence, many of them felt lonely. We are aware that we need to
spend more time to care for the elderly around us.
