Constrained by the limited resources and time within formal schooling, coupled with the pervasive tutoring culture in Hong Kong, underprivileged students often struggle to access the same resources and learning opportunities as their peers. Having once walked in their shoes and benefited from the benevolence of society, we have established 'Be the Cloud'. By mobilizing our collective strength and optimizing available resources, we aim to pass on the conviction of educational equity, give back to society, and walk hand-in-hand with students in need."
Compared to our previous experiences, this project offered expanded opportunities to engage more students. This larger sample size further illuminated the distinct individuality of each student. Stepping away from familiar small-group tutoring, my role shifted to that of a facilitator and coordinator. This required me to monitor the macro-flow and collective atmosphere of the event—a challenging yet rewarding learning experience. By maintaining this broader perspective, I gained clearer insights into the unique needs, preferences, and distinctive cultures of each participating school.
Consequently, the most memorable takeaway for me was mastering the ability to swiftly assess a group's dynamics within minutes, allowing me to dynamically adapt the curriculum and communication styles on the fly. I realized that only by alignment with a pace comfortable to the students can we effectively deliver language knowledge and observational skills in a pressure-free environment. Ultimately, these insights have profoundly solidified my commitment to pursuing a career in education, dedicated to empowering students to the best of my ability.
