Introduction

Although there are a number of community programmes available for elderly nowadays, hidden and singleton elders are relatively passive and seldom participate in these activities. Thus, their needs are easily neglected. Through a series of activities, from life journey experiencing to home visits, participants are expected to understand the needs of singleton elders and help foster communication between the two generations. For the elderly, in addition to joining the anti-fall workshop, a series of activities also serve as a platform for the elders to participate in community activities and to make friends in the same district. The event also introduced various existing elderly services in Hong Kong and their shortcomings, so as to motivate the participants to keep concern about the relevant social policies in the future.

Reflection and Learning

Participating in briefing workshop, experiential activities and communicating with service targets directly
enabled the participants to understand the needs and challenges of hidden and singleton elders from different perspectives. Through the service project, we observed that simply gave care and understanding could bring happiness to our service targets. At the same time, we were touched by their enthusiasm and friendliness. Moreover, we discovered that inadequate capabilities (such as physical fitness) are partly associated with the elders being “hidden” in the community. In fact, they are very willing to join social activities. All they need is more care and support from the public.
