We hoped to gather some students interested in volunteer work sharing the same goal, to
serve the left-behind children and elderly people in mainland china. We would like to teach
children some English and basic science knowledge, to understand more about the difficulties
of local elderly people and also to share love and happiness by giving some gift cards and
necessities to them. Moreover, we hoped that the participants could experience the lives of
farmers and broaden their horizons.
Through the process of planning and preparing for the service, meeting with the organization
on transportation and accommodation, it was found that our organization and planning skills
and also the adaptability improved. Through home visit, we found that although the locals’
lives were difficult, they still lived optimistically and positively, never complained and kept
thanksgiving, which were worth learning for anybody.
