Race Upon the Sky

Target
Local and ethnic minority children
Working Partner
On Tat Estate in Kwun Tong
Introduction

We are from different races but share the same identity in Hong Kong. Although people from
ethnic minority groups may present some cultural differences, they are still Hongkongers. The
purpose of the service is to allow participants to understand more about the ethnic minorities
in Hong Kong, and to encourage other students to care for them. Through communication,
local children and ethnic minority children can have mutual understanding and build
friendship. Also, they are encouraged to know the community visiting the elderly home.

Reflection and Learning

The service was divided into three parts, which included learning, understanding, and
reflection. To ensure all the participants know the service target well, they had to take part in
a workshop beforehand. During the service, participants had a deeper understanding of the
ethnic minorities, e.g., their habits and taboos in daily life, as well as their difficulties on
integration to Hong Kong society. Last but not least, debriefing after each activity enabled the
participants to exchange their service experience.
