The project leader comes from Pu County in Linfen City, Shanxi. Puxian is located on the Loess Plateau, with limited transportation and poor connectivity to the outside world, resulting in restricted information flow. The county has just alleviated poverty, and its economic condition is not favourable. There are insufficient educational resources, and a lack of information regarding further education and employment makes it difficult for students in Pu County to compete academically and professionally with their urban peers, leading to unfairness. Therefore, providing ample information is crucial for students' career opportunities, helping to narrow the information gap and promote social mobility.
Our team plans to provide Pu County students with information on academic and career development after high school graduation to assist them in planning for their future.
This project a special experience for me as a local student who grew up in Hong Kong, I started imagining the life and learning environment of students in the county before the event even began. The purpose of this event is to bridge the information gap, as local students have relatively limited access to information from the outside world. However, when I actually interacted with them, I realized that the county is not as closed off and backward as we imagined. On the contrary, young people today have already connected with and understood the outside world through the internet.
I am very happy to participate in this project, not only to help students gain a more comprehensive understanding of various educational pathways, but also to break my own one-sided perception of the county. Perhaps, I am the one truly breaking through my information gap.
