Workshop on Sex and Intimacy

Target
Primary 5-6 students
Working Partner
HKMLC Ming Tao Primary School in Tseung Kwan O
Introduction

According to a survey conducted by the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, more than 60% of the
interviewees believed that sex education in primary schools is inadequate. In addition, with advancement in
technology and widespread application of internet, children can easily get accessto sexual information. These information may be inaccurate and unreliable. Therefore, we hope to deliver sexual knowledge through playing games in this workshop. We would like to enhance their awareness of sexual harassment and teach them on how to protect themselves. We also aim to promote respect between boys and girls despite their physical differences.

Reflection and Learning

When preparing the activity, we learned that every member should cooperate and coordinate as a team in
order to enable the activity go smooth. For instance, we need to have a well-planned division of labour and
have lots of brainstorming and discussion to avoid errors. In the workshop, we discovered that primary
students of similar age had received different level of sex education, but they had high acceptance in
discussing sexual topics and seldom felt embarrassed. From this activity, we obtained a valuable experience in discussing a relatively sensitive topic. As future nurses, we will have more chances to deliver sex education and we can apply what we have learned from this experience.
